Mission
To continuously improve the effectiveness of social service delivery within the MPEA through the conduct of qualitative and quantitative research at the macro & micro which will deepen the understanding of social issues and contribute to the development of responsive and effective social policy and social programmes.
About
The Bureau of Social Policy Research and Planning operates to contribute to the development of evidenced-based social policies and social programmes within the Ministry of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs. To achieve this, the Bureau orchestrates and participates in social research activities and undertakes social planning activities which adequately inform the development of efficient social programming, social policy formulation and social planning processes within the MPEA.
Objectives
Collect and retrieve social data utilizing both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies to facilitate improved social programming through a deeper understanding of social problems.
Provide on-going assessment of poverty and living conditions in Barbados.
Collaborate with international and regional development partners who request social data and who are desirous of implementing and/financing social development projects.
Enhance the capacity of the MPEA to effectively design & deliver social programmes.
Formulate evidenced-based policy in the area of social provisioning.
